Рождественская оратория

17 декабря 2007 года в Национальной кафедральной базилике Вашингтона – самом величественном храме Америки – состоялось первое исполнение нового музыкального произведения епископа Венского и Австрийского Илариона (Алфеева) «Рождественская оратория» для солистов, хора мальчиков, смешанного хора и симфонического оркестра.

В исполнении «Рождественской оратории» приняли участие 180 музыкантов из России, включая Центральный симфонический оркестр Министерства обороны, Хор Государственной Третьяковской Галереи, Хор Музыкального колледжа при Московской Консерватории имени Чайковского, группу солистов Московской Хоровой Капеллы Мальчиков. Дирижировал премьерой главный военный дирижер России генерал-майор Валерий Халилов.

Концерт транслировался в прямом эфире телевизионной компанией EWTN, зрительская аудитория которого включает более 200 миллионов семей в 140 странах мира.

Christmas Oratorio

The world premiere of "Christmas Oratorio" by Bishop Hilarion Alfeyev for two choirs and symphony orchestra took place on December 17, 2007, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington DC. The Oratorio, which consists of 28 parts and lasts for 1 hour and 10 minutes, was performed by the Russian Defense Ministry Symphony Orchestra together with the Choir of the Tretyakov Gallery, the Youth Choir of the Musical College by the Moscow Conservatory and the group of soloists from the Moscow Boys' Choir Capella, conducted by Valery Khalilov. The soloists were Protodeacon Viktor Schilowsky (baritone-Ebangelist) and Protodeacon Alexander Ageikin (bass). The Washington DC Boys Choir joined the 180 Russian musicians at the finale of the "Oratorio."

There were at least 3000 listeners in the audience, including Metropolitan Herman of All America and Canada, primate of the Orthodox Church in America, and Metropolitan Laurus of Eastern America and New York, primate of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. The archbishop of Washington Donald Wuerl and the former archbishop Cardinal Theodore McCarrick were also present. At the end of the concert the enthusiastic public gave standing ovation to the composer and performers. The concert was broadcast live by EWTN (Eternal World Television Network), which is watched by over 200 million families in 140 countries.
